Move Over Project Runway and Hello "September Issue"

Gotta Watch it!

Just saw "September Issue" at Kahala Consolidated and all I can say is "Wow!" If you LoVe watching Reality TV as Much as I do, then you've gotta see this. I'm a Fan of "Project Runway", a FAN FAN of "Rachel Zoe Project", and a big fan of "The Devil Wears Prada", but this movie TOPS it all. Talk about Documentary that gives you a behind the scenes look at what makes the fashion industry tick.

Anna Wintour

Anna Wintour and her friend Grace Coddington, the Creative Director at Vogue, are too interesting for words. You know Miranda Priestly's (Meryl Streep's) office in the "The Devil Wears Prada"? Ok, that's exactly how Anna's office is set up. The running chaos, the cups of Starbucks, the stressed out staff, the quietly authoritative boss...that's the Vogue office. Amazing! The only thing you don't see is Anna's assistant. Nope, no Anne Hathaway to be seen.

Grace and Anna

Have to say "kudos" to Grace Coddington. I LOVe her! In the beginning of the film, I thought "who is she?" bc she doesn't look like she works for Vogue. (Yes, I'm so naive and out of it. ) Then, as the documentary progressed and you hear her and watch her work her magic and see the beauty of the art she creates, she seemingly turns into the loving offbeat fiery down-to-earth extraordinarily talented figure who looks gorgeous! To know her is to LoVe her and by golly, I did at the end of the movie. Yayyyy Grace!

If you're interested in the fashion world, a fan of anyone of the various fashion reality shows, love "The Devil Wears Prada", then you better put on your running shoes and get on down to your nearest theatre and sit back and soak it all in. I didn't even need to chomp on a tub of overly expensive and deadly movie popcorn...it was that good.

Check out the preview below...it's fab!

If you're on Oahu, check out the Honolulu Advertiser for the times to see it.

Two Thumbs and Two Big Toes!

"Whip It" a Feel Good Movie...Must See

"Whip It"
A Must See Movie

I love Drew Barrymore and I love Ellen Page from Juno movie. Last Friday, I saw Whip It when it first opened in Hawaii and I was rolling in laughter. The world of Austin roller derby queens came to life. I always wondered what it was all about and now I knew. Wonder if Hawaii will ever have it's own roller derby teams? It's very entertaining to watch and an exciting sport.

Page played the role of a unobtrusive teen coming of age and finding her passion. I found it interesting how Barrymore was able to play a character and not upstage anyone. Now, that's real acting. Barrymore's directorial debut shows promise and makes me want to see more of her work.

Check out the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. And see a Preview from YouTube. If you are on Oahu, check out the movie schedule on the Honolulu Advertiser.

A clean cut movie that you can take your daughter and share a tub of popcorn. Has sort of that Juno edge to it. When you want to just sit back and laugh and forget the days of furloughs and recession, this is the movie to see.

I'm Back...from the Movies

I read Julie & Julia awhile ago. Ok, like maybe last year or so before they announced they were making a movie out of this book. I read it bc it was about a girl that blogged and got famous doing it. Thought that would make for interesting and inspirational reading. And it was. I enjoyed that book and was inspired by it being a new blogger myself at the time.

Today, my GF and I did our Tuesday Girls' Only Outing. We started off by eating at our now new hangout "Macaroni Grill" at Ala Moana. We sit at the bar. I always enjoy sitting at the bar and eating. It's so entertaining. Our waiter/bartender is a hoot. Always ripping into us but always refilling our drinks of "heavy" iced tea (regular for me) and strawberry lemonade for my GF. (Hey, MG has some great lunch specials which are affordable and still a lot of food for your money. Check them out but don't take our seats at the bar on Tuesdays Ok?)

Then, off to the 12:30pm showing of Julie & Julia at Ward Center's theatres. I so enjoy a good laugh. And this movie gave me and my GF as well as many members of the audience many chances to laugh out loud in the comfort of total darkness. Needless to say, I would Laugh Out Loud (ok, LOL) even if the lights were all on.

Darkness or not, we were all laughing as Meryl Streep did another OUTSTANDING performance. Boy, I love Streep. She just gets better with every movie. Is that even possible? I grew to love her again when I watched The Devil Wears Prada. She can just take a role and make you believe, really believe that she's that character. And in the beginning of the movie, I believed that I was watching Julia Childs. She was that Great.

Also, I adore Amy Adams from Enchanted, Sunshine Cleaning, and Night at the Museum II. She's like the new Meg Ryan but she has this ability to start off as the underdog and rise to the top at the end of the movie and you're rooting for her all the way.

If you like a good laugh, if you need a good laugh, or you should have a good laugh, then run run run now and go see this movie.

And, if you don't laugh out loud at the movies (or anywhere for that matter), then do the following: 1) Close your eyes, 2) feel the urge to laugh or giggle bubble up inside you, 3) Open your god damned mouth and let the World Hear you laugh. To hell with the people around you. If that doesn't do it, then remember you paid at least $8 to see this movie, so you Paid the Rights to Laugh Out Loud.

Bon Appetit! :)

Movie Review---Bring a Lot of Kleenex---------Nights In Rodanthe

Talk about chemistry. Richard Gere and Diane Lane back again together. After years have gone by since "Unfaithful" and "Cotton Club" (which I never saw), they're back again and better than ever.

Lane plays a married gal with kids whose estranged husband wants to return and play "husband" again. Lane goes off to a fabulous but kinda scary B&B that literally is on the beach shoreline. She's watching over it for her BFF who goes away on holiday. Gere plays a recently divorced surgeon who has retired and has some things to take care of in this beach village. Fast forward...romance blossoms quickly in dire times.

Okay, I'm not going to give away the ending. All I can say is that I do like Gere and Lane together again.
